The Pearson VUE exam is required for new notary applicants and notary applicants with expired commissions. The Department of State will contact you by email to schedule the Pearson VUE exam if required after both the education course has been completed and your notary application has been approved. If you are required to take the Pearson VUE exam, Pearson VUE charges a separate fee at the time of scheduling the Pearson VUE exam.

The Recorder of Deeds charges a recording fee varying by county when swearing in as a notary.
